PRESS RELEASE: MP Marilyn Gladu calls for safe, full reopening of Canada-U.S. border

SARNIA, ON—MP Marilyn Gladu calls for safe, full reopening of Canada-U.S. border

After more than a year and a half of hearing from desperate families separated by the border, and from industries suffering under the border closure, Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu is calling for a full and safe reopening of the Canada-U.S. border.

“I have continued to advocate for safe border opening measures, having had some success with family reunifications, compassionate exemptions, and transfers of property across the border,” said MP Gladu.

“Meanwhile, the Liberals have utterly failed Canadians throughout this pandemic. From the inconsistent and punishing border controls, to the delays in the vaccine rollout that put us six months behind other countries, it is clear they have no plan to exit the pandemic and restore the economy,” said MP Gladu.

“Families have been separated in the midst of disease and death, and property owners have been unable to attend their properties for more than a year. In light of the calls from our U.S. counterparts to re-open the border, I urge the Liberal government to accelerate their plan to fully open the border with safety protocols that are appropriate,” said MP Gladu.

“I will continue push alongside my American counterparts for the border to be fully and safely re-opened, to allow for freedom of movement and commerce once more,” said MP Gladu.
