FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SARNIA, ON—MP Marilyn Gladu questions local officials and union leaders on Line 5 at Canada-U.S. Parliamentary Committee

As part of the Team Canada approach to keeping the critical Line 5 open, Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu is questioning local officials and union leaders at the Canada-U.S. Special Committee today.

Appearing before the committee is Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley, as well as Andrew Pilat, Sarnia Construction Association General Manager, and Scott Archer, Union Local 663 Business Agent.

Our union leaders have been key in the fight to keep Line 5 open and save 50,000 jobs on both sides of the border. Scott Archer started e-petition 3081, which was sponsored by MP Gladu. The petition implores PM Justin Trudeau to appeal to U.S. President Joe Biden to intervene on the basis of the Line’s importance to several U.S. states as well as Ontario, Quebec, and our Western Canadian oil producers, and received 10,377 signatures.

To Mayor Mike Bradley, MP Gladu will be asking about the impacts of a potential shutdown of Line 5 on Sarnia-Lambton directly, from the impact on our road and rail infrastructure to the possibility of thousands of residents out of work.

The Committee meeting is available to watch publicly on the Parliamentary viewing website.
