PRESS RELEASE: MP Marilyn Gladu supports designation of Foreign Trade Zone for Sarnia-Lambton

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sarnia, ON—MP Marilyn Gladu, Shadow Minister for FedDev Ontario, says she is excited to see the designation of a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) for Sarnia-Lambton. The announcement was made Tuesday under the FedDev Agency.

A FTZ Point is single point of access to resources and information for programs that relieve duties, tariffs and taxes for businesses importing and exporting. The designation will allow Sarnia-Lambton to market the area as a hub for international trade and to provide access to government FTZ programs helping to attract more business and foreign direct investment, assisting the region in its pandemic economic recovery and building a solid economic foundation for the future.

“This program is similar to the ongoing, successful initiative in Niagara. It will hugely benefit our local economy and create job opportunities, which is exactly what we need, coming out of the devastation of the pandemic,” says MP Gladu.

“I am grateful to FedDev and the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce for their efforts on this program, especially for our community. I will do everything in my power to assist with the program and bring it to life for Sarnia-Lambton.”
