FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – Marilyn Gladu, Associate Conservative Shadow Minister for International Trade and Supply Chains, released the following statement upon the successful vote to send her Bill C-228: An Act to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and the Pension Benefits Standards Act, 1985, to Committee.
“I am thrilled to announce my Private Member’s Bill, Bill C-228, received near-unanimous support to proceed to the next step in the legislative process.
“Bill C-228 proves Parliament can work together and get behind good ideas.
“Strengthening the pensions of Canadians through greater legislative protections has been a priority for opposition parties for years now. My Bill is an amalgamation of similar legislation put forward by my own Conservative colleagues, as well as those in the Bloc and NDP, and has therefore received the support of members from other opposition parties. On Wednesday, the Bill also received the support of the Liberals, with only one vote against.
“Bill C-228 will now go before the Parliamentary Finance Committee in order to proceed in the legislative process and undergo consultation from all parties.
