STATEMENT: MP Gladu disappointed in Speaker’s ruling on severance amendment in Bill C-228

OTTAWA, ON— Sarnia—Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu is disappointed in the Speaker’s ruling today to exclude an amendment related to severance in her Private Member’s Bill, Bill C-228 on pension protection. The amendment had been agreed upon previously by members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee at the Committee stage.

“I am disappointed that the Liberal government did not support adding protection for severance in the bankruptcy priority. That said, I respect the ruling of the Speaker and look forward to support for the protection of pensions at third reading this Friday.

“Bill C-228 will go a long way to helping ensure Canadians are able to enjoy financial security for themselves and their families into their golden years.
